Submission before Position

Outlier Mat Minute: Submission before Position
We often hear “position before submission.” That’s good advice, but sometimes we can flip it.
Position before Submission - Usually we want to solidify a controlling position before we chase the submission.
Submission before Position- If they’re focused on preventing your control, you can get the submission first.
Word of Caution - With the submission in place, it can be tempting to go for the finish. This can work, but can also lead to the defender escaping as we have not yet established control.

P.S. The submission threat can help you get to positional control. Take what they give you, but try to establish control before going all out for the submission.
