Skim the Leg
Words I Like - “Control their legs with your legs so your hands can finish the job.”
Outlier Mat Minute: Skim the Leg
When attacking the legs, ideally we can control of the defender’s secondary leg with our legs, freeing up our arms to attack submissions. A great way to do this is called “skimming the leg.”
Cross Ashi: When they turn away and pummel their free leg across your hamstring, trap it with your legs. Now your hands are free to hunt the inside heel hook.
Single Leg X: When we reap from SLX, the defender can roll to alleviate the pressure of the outside heel hook. We can look to use this as an opportunity to skim their secondary leg.
Tren Lock: When skimming the leg it can be hard to keep the defender’s knee line under our control. This can be a great time to threaten the tren lock version of a straight ankle lock.
As promised, jiu-jitsu insights in under 1 minute!
