Over Under Guard Retention

Outlier Mat Minute: Over Under Guard Retention
Under-the-legs passing can be tough to deal with, but here’s a reliable way to retain your guard against the over under pass:
#overundergrip + #guardpass - From the over under, the passer wants to get their head tight to your hip.
#overundergrip + #guardretention - Frame their head away or grab their arm on the scoop-grip side. This stops them from winning the head position battle.
#overundergrip + #doublescoopgrip - If you block their head position, they may switch to other forms of passing like double scoop grips.
#foottoarmpit - To prevent follow up guard passes, we can free our trapped leg to the armpit of their scoop grip.
When retaining guard against the over under pass, first prevent their head position then look to free your trapped leg to their armpit to prevent follow up guard passes. The key is not escaping one move, but escaping the sequence to get out of the defensive cycle.
As promised, jiu jitsu insights in under 1 minute!
