Outlier Mat Minute: Outside Camping Variations
Brian Glick talks about the 3 things we need to successfully camp against our opponent.
Prevent the side guard on the near side.
Prevent the high leg on the far side
Prevent their head from moving out and away
Outside camping isn’t limited to the classic hip and knee post. There are plenty of ways to camp outside the legs while keeping control. Here are a few I’ve been working on:
Andrew Tackett: A grip on the head (preferably a reverse collar tie or reverse crossface) and a grip on the near leg.
Example 1 | Example 2Gordon Ryan: An inverted V-grip on the near leg.
Example 1 | Example 2Jozef Chen: He doesn’t always rely on the classic tripod posture. He controls the bottom leg by dropping his own knee to the mat, making guard recovery much harder.
