Outlier Mat Minute: Knee Pull when Guard Passing
When passing knee shield half guard, outside passing is a strong option. The challenge is dealing with their near or far knee frames. Here’s how the knee pull can help:
#johndanaher - To deal with the near knee as a frame, in the gi we can take a grip on their sleeve and lift to expose their back.
#kneepull - Without the gi, instead of gripping their arm, a more robust grip would be grabbing their near leg to use a knee pull to expose their back.
#kneepull + #outsidecamping - We can also use the knee pull grip to address their near knee as we settle into our outside camping position.
#kneeshieldpass + #kneepull - If we use outside passing against a knee shield half guard, if we never clear their knee shield their far knee can be a frame. When this is the case, we can run around their body to make their far leg now their near leg so we can use the knee pull.
