Guard Passing - Bait Connection
Words I Like: "Speed is a powerful thing, but it's wisdom that steers it."
Outlier Mat Minute: Bait Connection
Passing the guard often means breaking past your opponent’s strong knee-to-elbow connection. One effective way to create openings is by baiting your opponent to separate it themselves. A simple example is inviting them to reach for an RDLR (Reverse De La Riva) hook.
Create Angle: Owen Jones baits his opponent into reaching for a RDLR connection, using it to create angle.
Knee Cut: As the guard player reaches for the RDLR connection, it can lead to knee cut opportunities.
Type of Connection: It is important that we force the guard player to connect with their feet on the inside.
As promised, jiu-jitsu insights in under 1 minute!
P.S. Baiting the RDLR connection works beautifully with the cross step!
