Deandre Corbe Attacks from Mount
ATTN: THIS WILL BE THE FINAL NEWSLETTER!!!
The new version of the Outlier Database is now live with a working chatbot and a new interface. You’ll also notice a new Daily Study section. Starting January 1st, 2026 this newsletter on Substack will be discontinued and the Daily Study will take its place. This way we consolidate my content into one place and you can now earn prizes for completing daily studies.
When attacking from mount, if we can get outside their elbows with a gift wrap or head and arm grip, the general advice is to attack an arm triangle or take the back. However, Deandre seems to prefer the arm bar.
#mount + #giftwrap + #underhook - With a gift wrap, Deandre threatens to take an underhook on the secondary arm. If he can get it, he can finish the ude gatame version of the arm bar on the secondary arm.
#mount + #armbarsubmission - The defender may put their hand in our armpit to make it hard for us to use our underhook. Deandre counters this by transitioning to s-mount with the secondary arm shelved on his hip. This position was made popular by Gordon Ryan as a great way to isolate the primary arm for an easy arm bar finish.
#mount + #dilemma - If we cannot get the underhook on the secondary arm, we can transition to attacking the neck and primary arm with an arm triangle.
#mount + #destabilization - If they are keeping their elbow tight to their body to prevent our underhook, we can bring our hand below their elbow to push their arm across the center to get into a miserable position for them.
As promised, jiu jitsu insights in under 1 minute!
P.S. Here is an exclusive video of me teaching this.
