Change your posture when passing the guard
Words I Like – “A small shift in posture can open a whole new direction.”
Outlier Mat Minute: Change your posture when passing the guard
When passing from HQ or knee shield half guard, we often lead with our inside knee. Try switching things up — lead with your outside knee instead. This small change can open new paths to pass.
#hq - From HQ, place your inside foot on the mat and your outside knee down. This makes it hard for them to grip your ankle and lets you switch sides to pass from half guard instead.
#hq + #headblock + #guardpass - This posture also gives you a great chance to get to an underhook and use a headblock — one of the best passing options, in my opinion.
#halfguardpass + #kneeshieldpass - From half guard, putting your inside foot on the mat and leading with your outside knee can help you clear the knee shield.
