Outlier Mat Minute: Body Triangle from the Back
When using a body triangle, it’s easy to rely solely on the lock of your legs and forget to incorporate hooks for added control. Here are some examples that have helped me refine my back control while using a body triangle:
Top-Side Body Triangle: If your opponent attempts a turning escape and your body triangle is locked with the foot on the outside, you can use a crab hook to slow down or stop their escape entirely. Both Meregali and William Tackett demonstrate this beautifully:
Bottom-Side Body Triangle: If your foot is in the center, extending it to hook your opponent’s leg can effectively slow down or block their turning escape. Nicky Ryan and Andrew Tackett both showcase this well:
