Outlier Mat Minute: Acceptance principle (Rear Triangle Escape)
It feels hopeless when someone traps your arm from the back. Most of the time, it’s just a matter of time before they lock up the RNC. However, Giancarlo Bodoni gives us some ideas that provide hope in this hopeless situation:
#back + #armtrap + #rncsubmission - If the attacker traps our arm with their thigh below our shoulder, they have access to the most dominant submission in the sport, the RNC.
Giancarlo Bodoni - When Giancarlo feels his arm about to be trapped, he flares his elbow high. This forces his opponent to trap the arm by bringing their thigh over Giancarlo’s shoulder.
#reartriangleescape - With their thigh over our shoulder, we no longer have to worry about the RNC, but now we need reliable strategies to defend the rear triangle.
If your arm is going to be trapped, make the attacker bring their thigh over your shoulder to do so. It’s still a tough spot, but at least you took away their ability to apply a RNC and you have a better chance to escape.
